Techno Babble Circa 1988
Plain language forms the basis of effective communication: messages that convey the intended message with one reading. Yet, research studies show that one-third of all correspondence is prepared to clarify a previous message. With the advent of electronic communication, where the emphasis is on speed and brevity, the importance of complete, clear statements is frequently underestimated. As one writer stated, E-mail is a party to which English teachers were not invited. Therefore, business educators must assume responsibility for preparing students to communicate in plain language rather than in techno babble.
